Horses have probably lived in Estonia as long as people have, and people have always tried to put these extraordinary animals into some use. As time passed and as a result of breeding, a distinct Estonian Native Horse emerged after centuries passed. The Estonian Native is the basis for all other Estonian horse breeds. In the 19th century, Estonian horse breeding became more professional and two new breeds were initiated: the Tori Horse and the Estonian Draft Horse. After Estonia regained independence in 1991, three more Estonian breeds were initiated: the Estonian Sport Horse, the Estonian Riding Pony, and the Estonian Mini Pony.
